 The charging unit mounts onto the battery with the use of a strong adhesive. The display unit plugs directly into the charger with the use of a telephone plug.
The charger unit dimensions are 1.5" x 2" x .25" (about the same size as a pack of gum). The charger unit uses solid state electronics, which makes it extremely reliable and durable.
The charger unit uses a technique known as Pulse Width Modulation to charge a battery. If the battery voltage is low more power is supplied to the battery. As the voltage increases to the fully charged condition, the amount of power supplied to the battery decreases. Pulse Width Modulation to a battery also removes the sulfate build up on the battery plates. This "plate cleaning process" keeps the battery at peak condition.
The monitoring systems on chargeGuard includes amps, volts, ambient temperature, and a warning system. Amps, volts, and temperature are displayed numerically and in bar graph format. The ambient temperature can be displayed in Fahrenheit or Celsius. All modes have large enunciators showing what is being measured. The monitoring system includes an ICE alert warning as standard. If the outside temperature approaches freezing conditions, red display lights activate and the word "ICE" is animated on the display. This feature is automatic, and works even in the volt and amp modes. The use of bar graphs on the display give the rider the information they need at a glance. For night time driving the display has a back light which activates automatically.
Motorcycle batteries are small, but the electrical load of lights, heated apparel, GPS system and other accessories keeps going up. On some models, expensive Gel-cell or AGM batteries are necessary. On other models, high output alternators are required. chargeGUARD CG-10 will monitor the charging system and maintain your battery. |
