After years of using a ChatterBox FRS my friends and I thought it was finally time for new communicators. I checked at CBXMAN and they had raised their Chatterbox prices from $149 to $169!!! When I wrote and asked what was up they told me ChatterBox had just put in new advertising rules and that they were forced to raise their prices or lose the line. We decided instead to try the MotoCom SK-1000 units and save ourselves $40 per unit. With 4 of using the same unit that's some serious coin! We've been using one of the MotoComm Helmet Cams for about a year now and its a first class camera once you overcome the complexity of it so we figured to give the communicators a try based on that.
The SK-1000's were the same way! Everything you could possibly need is packaged in a neat carry case and when you read the instructions, set up was a snap and the units work great. Three of us use full face helmets and with the mic velcroed to the front of the helmet it works fine. One of the helmets is a modular flip open style and we used the boom mike on that set up and it actually worked even better! We think that is the best way to go. The rest of the SK-1000 goes in your tank bag or coat pocket(better).
If you haven't used communicators in group riding yet you're missing the boat. It's great for the lead rider to be able to alert the other riders to road hazards and it's a great way for the other riders to let the leader know they need a rest or food stop. It's also fun just be able to critique each others riding as we go along. These SK-1000 MotoComm's have more range than the old Chatterboxes and have held up and kept working in the rain. We think they're the best buy now!
